We've had recruits happily commit to Fredonia in September as high school seniors.
We've also had them commit in December, January, February, March, April, and one time I can think of, May. They were equally happy.
Just because someone you know commits to a college in tenth grade, doesn't mean her decision was inherently good. Her timeline isn't your timeline, and it would be a waste of mental energy to compare the two.
The best time to commit to a college is the time that you, your family, and your potential coach are all comfortable with.
