Who's That Man in Blue? by Lauren Hokaj

This post is written by junior libero Lauren Hokaj

Most people on the team call me “Hokaj” or “hobo” and I’m usually known as the girl wearing the other color jersey… But today I want to introduce somebody else. I want to introduce the Fredonia Volleyball blog to one of our team’s greatest fans. He’s at every home game and sometimes even shows up to a lot of away games and tournaments. Sometimes unexpectedly. Every game he attends he’s wearing a big blue sweatshirt, so you honestly can’t miss him. On that blue sweatshirt it says “Fredonia Grandparent.” I have the privilege of calling that man my grandpa. The man, the myth, the legend: Grandpa Hokaj.

Grandpa Hokaj is not only one of the biggest fans of our volleyball team, making sure stats are correct and expressing his opinion on the game that was just played, but he’s my biggest fan too. My grandpa has been watching me play volleyball since I was a young girl. He always is there to hug me after every game and tells me that I did a great job. He also tells me when I didn’t do a very great job. Gotta love his honesty. He’s a great guy and genuinely loves watching our team play. I think  every grandparent on our team should buy the sweatshirt that he has and maybe form a little fan club. That would be cool and probably extremely awkward, but that’s what makes our team so special. Not only do we have a bunch of weird and unique girls on the team, we have a fan base that loves us dearly and supports us at every game.

So next game, keep a lookout for Grandpa H. Surprisingly, I have no picture of him in his blue Fredonia Grandparent sweatshirt, but here’s a picture of him. Close your eyes and just picture him wearing a blue Fredonia Sweatshirt with “Fredonia Grandparent” written on it in white, khaki dress pants, walking into Dods gym, sitting first row in the bleachers cheering on the Blue Devils.. And picture this minus the do-rag:
