Enjoying ourselves in the Paganello's game room |
Our first match was against Plattsburgh, a very dangerous opponent with several dynamic hitters. We were able to see them play several times at tournaments throughout the season and we knew they'd be a challenge. Even though set scores were very tight, we pulled away victorious in four, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 25-23. Jess and Sara led the way offensively with 14 and 12 kills respectively, while Hokaj collected 25 digs, her highest total of the season. Plattsburgh finished fourth in the conference, qualifying for the playoffs. With the way they're playing right now, nobody is too excited about facing them.
Later in the evening for our second match we faced Geneseo, the only team in the conference with a younger roster than our own. Although they played in front of a large home crowd on a Friday night, we again took the match in four sets, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 25-17. Kelly had a great all-around match, finishing with 35 assists and 17 digs. Jess, Sara, and KO all had nine kills to split the offense and Hannah had a solid blocking match, finishing with five. All we'd now need is one more win to secure third place in the conference.
Saturday afternoon would be our final match against Oneonta. Comparing records, one would think that the Blue Devils would take the match easily, but that idea was quickly put aside as Oneonta took an 11-0 lead in the first set, and finished it out winning 25-14. Things would quickly have to change if we had any shot of winning, and thankfully the rest of the match was set to a different tune as we won with set scores of 27-25, 25-14, 25-17. Sara was again our top performer, finishing with 16 kills and hitting .310.
The 3-0 weekend feels nice, but we know we have to play better if we want to win the conference. Afterwards, the Paganello's were nice enough to host us for dinner at their home in Batavia. Great food, and great people :)
