3-0 Win vs. SUNYAC Rival New Paltz

Jenny's dominant
weekend earned her
the Hawks
All-Tournament team
Fueled by the delicious marinated meat-on-a-stick dinner at the Manning household Thursday night, the team started the Hawks Invitational strong with a 3-0 win against SUNYAC rival New Paltz.  Our defense was phenomenal and clearly was the difference. Jenny had a HUGE solo block in the second set which kept the momentum on our side as New Paltz tried to work themselves back into the match. The offense was led by Lindsey with a team season-high and career high 18 kills. That mark for Linds is fourth best all-time in a three set match and her 48 attempts is a school record! The last time we swept the Hawks was in 2008 in the SUNYAC Championship match.

Friday night against Clarkson proved to be an exciting match with another very solid defensive performance against a talented offensive team.  In the 1-3 loss, Mick dominated in the front row for the last three points in the first set win after we utilized all our substitutions. Reanne Sansone ruled the net with 10 total blocks!  "Zesus" ended the day TIED with Bridget Case (Caffrey) for all time career digs with 1,656.

Saturday included two dominant three set wins over Johnson & Wales and then Mount Saint Mary's.  Against JWU, Jenny had 8 kills (.437) and 3 blocks.  Sansone had 7 kills (.500) and 3 blocks.  Against MSMC, Jenny led the way again with 10 kills (.444) and 3 total blocks.  Emily had 8 kills (.538).  The team hit an impressive .350 during the final match of the weekend.  Lindsey Olson served 17 straight points in the second set and tied a school record with 10 aces in a match!

Fredonia finished in second place (3-1) for the tournament.  Jenny Newhouse was named to the All-Tournament team!  Over the weekend she had 30 kills and 11 blocks.  She improved steadily each match and was a big reason for our success.

Sarah Zureck became the all-time career leader in digs in Fredonia history.  What can be said other than I am so proud of her.  I am more proud of the way in which she achieved that feat.  She is a classy individual who works her butt off.  I'll be creating a separate blog about "Zesus" and her accomplishment soon.
