"Are you happy to be back at school?," isn't the right question to ask. It elicits the response you're looking for: "Yes, I am."
A better question: "How are you feeling about being back at school?" The answers to this question are always more interesting and truthful.
The applications of, "how are you feeling about..." are endless.
