Hello friends! My name is Liza and I am excited to begin my sophomore year at Fredonia in the fall! Summer is a very busy time for me managing work, the gym, friends and time to relax. It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the summer! I am excited to share some of my summer highlights with our blog readers!
Work:
Liza is one of the best camp counselors EVER! |
To most people, work is considered a chore, but I am lucky enough to wake up every morning and spend all day at a job that I love. For the first three weeks of summer I was the nanny of two beautiful little bundles of joy. Knowing that I got to spend the day with my favorite five year old playground hopping or painting our nails made waking up at six a little bit easier. When the three weeks came to an end I transitioned to my job to working as a camp counselor for my second year. I have a love-hate relationship with my job as a counselor at Hellendale. It can get very chaotic and overwhelming looking out for 150 kids with ages ranging from 3-13 with only 7 counselors so I do my best to pretend like I have it all under control. I spend most of my day getting sunburnt on the playground or the kickball field, making crafts, pushing kids on the swings and teaching them how to do boondoggle. Although camp can get stressful at times, I am learning a lot about problem solving and dealing with adversity which I hope will help to prepare me in my future as I pursue childhood inclusive as my major. Being a camp counselor has helped me to confirm my love for working with children J
My visit to the Bush:
Meggy and Liza |
We are lucky that a lot of people from Fredonia live only a few hours away from each other, however some people come from much further. One of my teammates Megan (also known as Meggy, Megalicious, or Megnificent) lives in Pine Bush, a place most people have never heard of. After a year of hearing stories about people and places in Pine Bush I decided that I needed to visit the place I had been hearing so much about! During my visit, we celebrated her 19th birthday, did some shopping, saw Santana in concert and took a road trip to the beach in New Jersey. I highly recommend making a visit to the bush if you ever get a chance! Next stop: Shelter Island to visit fellow teammate Sav (aka Saversauce!)
Weekly Bonfires:
At the end of my senior year my group of friends decided that we needed a way to keep in touch over the summer so we decided to get together every week and have a bonfire. We all enjoyed it so much last year that we decided to continue the tradition this summer. Every Friday a different person hosts the bonfire at their house and we share the stories from the past week, roast marshmallows, occasionally swim and sometimes break out the Kan Jam. Fridays are always my favorite day because after a long week I always have something to look forward to J
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog! Happy summer! J
