Golden Flyer Invitational

This past weekend we travelled to Nazareth’s campus in Rochester for the Golden Flyer Invitational. Our first match was against Scranton, a team the Blue Devils have never seen before. Scranton had a lot of offensive power, but our defenders were up to the task as we prevailed in three sets, 25-16, 25-12, and 25-23. Sara Madison led the way offensively with 12 kills and four service aces, while Paulina had 7 and KO had 6. Brit covered the floor very well, finishing with 12 digs.

Our second match Friday evening was against Mount Union, a top ten nationally ranked team out of Ohio. We were able to scout them a week before at Cortland, and we knew they had several big hitters along with tremendous range defensively. It was bound to be a very fast match and we’d have to keep up to be competitive. While we dropped the match in three sets (12-25, 19-25, 11-25), we felt we were able to match pace with such a great team, and our pace throughout never wavered. Hannah and KO had five kills each, and Lauren O’Hara had a terrific match defensively with 10 kills.

Saturday morning we would play Hartwick, a team from Oneonta, NY. Our offense was too much for them to handle as we won in three sets, 25-17, 25-13, 25-19. Several of our hitters hit above .300, but Jess hit over .500 and Hannah hit almost .900! It was a fun morning for our offense.

After finishing second in our pool, we would match up against the second place team from the other pool at the tournament, RIT. Our serving was too tough and our play at the net was too fast as we won our final match in three sets, 25-10, 25-13, and 25-15. Kelly evenly distributed our attack with 26 assists, and once again we had four hitters hit about .350, another outstanding offensive effort. Brit Kelly and LO again led our defense, totaling 18 digs.

Overall we thought our team competed hard and we were happy with the result. We're proud to announce that both Kelly Edinger and Sara Madison were named to the All-Tournament Team... great job girls!
