SUNYAC SEMIFINALS

The 2012 Blue Devil volleyball team finishes 19-16

Saturday means semifinals and we knew we would be taking on Cortland.  After Friday's match, I was confident that we wouldn't be rattled by the environment.  We also played Cortland earlier in the season and played them really tough in a 1-3 loss.  That loss was in week two of the season and we all knew that we are a much better volleyball team now than we were then.

We wanted our serving and passing to be the difference in the match and we needed to contain Cortland's offense.  We did a great job of defending against them but unfortunately our offense was not effective against Cortland's presence at the net.  The match was a tough one and we lost in straight sets 20-25, 16-25, 18-25.

Jess had 7 kills, Hokaj led with 17 digs.  We held the Red Dragons to a .159 hitting percentage and one of their outsides did not earn a kill the entire match.

It is always sad when a season ends and this year is no different.  We had, and will continue to have, high expectations for this program.  Our young roster learned a lot this season and that will be beneficial moving forward.

I am proud of this team and believe that they are a special group of young women.  I appreciate all of their dedication and hard work over the last few months.  It really was a lot of fun.
