Golden Flyer Tournament

Lindsey had 38 kills,
28 digs and five blocks
over the weekend.
Going into the tournament this past weekend, we wanted to stay focused on improving from the previous weekend.  We also knew that the competition would be tougher so it was a good test of our character and of our improvement with certain aspects of our game on the court.

We began with a rematch against host Nazareth College.  The Blue Devils lost 16-25, 25-18, 25-15, 20-25, 13-15.  Lindsey led the team offensively with 13 kills.  Jess had 9 kills and two blocks.  Paulina had four service aces and eight digs.  Hokaj led the defense with 19 digs and Lo had 12.  Kelly assisted on 26 of our kills.  The 2-3 loss was not what we wanted but it was a huge improvement from only one week prior.

Friday night we played Cortland.  Our SUNYAC rival and the 13th ranked team in the country.  We came out flying and hit .355 in the first set winning 27-25.  The rest of the match was tight but we lost 1-3.  Hannah had a good match with a team high 12 kills and 2 blocks.  Meredith had a team high 5 blocks and added four kills.  Lindsey had 10 kills and 3 aces.  Hokaj had 15 digs and Lo added 11.  Kelly earned 28 assists in the match.

Saturday began with a match against 19th ranked Mount Union.  Mount Union won 25-19, 25-21, 25-16.  Jessica and Hannah led the team with 7 kills each and Hannah also had a team high 5 blocks.  Jess hit .545 during the match.  Hokaj and Lo led the team in digs again with 10 and 8 respectively.

Clarkson was our last opponent for the weekend.  In the first set we caught them off guard with our serving and won 25-7.  The rest of the match was a lot tighter and Clarkson won 3-1.  Paulina had a great match with 10 kills (.409), 3 aces and 10 digs... all team highs.

The weekend did not finish with anything in the win column but I am proud of the progress that has been made to this point.  Playing a tough schedule will make us better prepared moving forward.  I am very confident in this group.
