Senior night is about celebrating the hard work, dedication and commitment of the senior class. We talked about having fun during the match and it proved to be one of the more memorable regular season matches we've ever had in Dods Hall. A rowdy crowd made it a really exciting place to play.
Rochester beat us in a tight 3-1 match for the first contest of the season. Our improvement since then has been tremendous so we wanted that to show. Z had four digs in the first rally and our defense made a statement early. Both Hannah and Jenny each had 4 kills with no errors. We controlled the first set for the most part and held off a Rochester push at the end to win 25-22.
The second set started similar to the first but our offense came from a few different sources. Emily earned four kills and Linds and Chels each had three. Brit Lis made an amazing dig when Rochester's right side crushed a ball sharp cross and "Big Red" reached about five feet to her right for the up. As a team we hit .458 and our efficiency resulted in a 25-20 win.
The Devils started slow in the third set and fell behind 11-17 before Jenny Newhouse had a big block against Rochester's outside to gain some momentum. After trading a couple of points and making it 13-19, "Nenny" crushed a ball to cut the lead to five. Jess subbed in and served a tough ball that the Yellowjackets couldn't handle and then both teams traded service errors before Mick subbed in and went back to serve. A big Ernstberger dig and a weird point where we worked our butts off got us to within two. Emily Linn took advantage of a couple digs by Mick and Z and shoved a ball down to the floor from the middle to get to within one. Then a nice aggressive dump by Brit after a Jess dig tied it up at 20-20. A flubbed attack from Rochester fell to gain Rochester the lead. A Lindsey kill followed by a Rochester hitting error gave Fredonia it's first lead of the third set at 22-21. The Jackets regained the lead 23-22 after a hitting error and kill from their middle. Olson had a really hard cross court shot for a kill to tie it... Mick had a HUGE dig against a 2-ball that resulted in a Lindsey tool off the block... Rochester called a timeout... and Jenny sealed the win with a huge trademark stuff block!
Zesus had one of her stronger matches finishing with 19 digs and 7 aces while passing a 2.83. Chelsea had her best blocking performance of the season with 7 total blocks. Ernstberger led the rest of the team with 8 digs. Brit notched 30 assists and a solo block. Hanner hit .615 with 8 kills in 13 attempts.
A great night to celebrate Senior Night and achieve a team goal.
