Progress at Nazareth

With three more weeks of practice before we go to Oswego for conference play, we're looking for signs of progress on a weekly basis. A lot of the progress we're looking for is volleyball-related. We want to be hitting at a .215 percentage and we got closer this weekend by hitting .210. We want to have at least 12 kills in every set, after this weekend we're now over 11.

But our core values are never far from mind: Family, Passion, Service, and Purpose. The idea of creating a communal, family-oriented atmosphere is always on my mind as a coach. How can these girls live more openly together? How can they work through differences more effectively? How can we create an atmosphere where they're encouraged to put aside personal gain for the betterment of our team?

We really wanted to win that match against Nazareth this weekend. As a coach, it stews in your blood longer than it probably should. But to get on the bus afterwards and hear Lauren Hokaj leading a team singalong to every terrible pop song on the radio (think Florida Georgia Line and Miley Cyrus) gives me hope.

In fact, I'd call that progress.
