Jenna Tatu ('11) on Life After Fredonia

Fredonia Volleyball Alumni (Jenna on Right)

Life after Fredonia has not been dull, that’s for sure. I graduated in May 2011 with a Bachelor’s in Math Education. I knew I wanted to go to graduate school as soon as I graduated. I decided to go to Medaille to study special education. Fortunately, I was offered a graduate assistant position in the athletics department which paid for my tuition. While going to school and working in the athletics department I continued to work at Wegmans. In August 2012 the volleyball coach asked if I wanted to help out with the team. I knew I wanted to be a coach one day and this was a great opportunity. I loved helping coach the girls and we won the AMCC Conference for the first time in Medaille’s history and went onto the NCAA Tournament. I graduated from Medaille in December of 2012 with a Master’s in Special Education.
Class of 2011: Jenna, Danne, and Kaitlin
After Medaille I started substitute teaching and working at Bryant & Stratton College.  I was working at Bryant & Stratton for just a few months before I was offered a full time position. I gave up subbing and thought that the college level is where I wanted to work. Boy was I wrong! I went back to subbing after about a year at Bryant & Stratton. Currently, I work at Stanley G. Falk School as a Teacher’s Aide.  Though it is not my dream job, I love what I do. The kids are not always the easiest but, I enjoy teaching them and seeing them develop as the year goes on. The days go by fast and I always leave with a good story.
As for volleyball, I am now the assistant volleyball coach for Buffalo State. We had an awesome season and won the SUNYAC conference for the first time in Buffalo State history. Winning the SUNYAC and advancing to the Big Dance both as a player and a coach is an amazing accomplishment. My favorite memories in my volleyball career was winning the conference and beating Stevens Institute of Technology to advance to the sweet sixteen!
I miss Fredonia every day. I have so many great memories and met some of my best friends. People don’t understand how great of a place it is until they attend school there. It is its own world and I loved everything about it.
