On Saturday morning several of our girls got their first taste for construction. Habitat for Humanity in Chautauqua was kind enough to let us help with their site in Mayville, a future home for a local couple with four children, two dogs, and a cat! We spent lots of time digging holes, moving wood,
and generally getting ourselves dirty.
Ted, our site leader, spoke to our group about the Purpose of our gathering
that day. Ted was on older gentleman who clearly had put his time in building homes. His feeling is that the reason we spent that Saturday morning together was to share in the joy of the human Family and to Serve one another.
We hope our girls come out of our program with an understanding that the euphoria that comes from winning volleyball games does not last, often not even more than 24 hours. What does last are the relationships we've made, and the amount of time we've spent helping one another.
That is why we are here.
