My name is Leanne Maloney, a 2009 graduate of Fredonia State College. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications, a Varsity Women’s Volleyball Conference Title, two internship experiences, and friends that will last a lifetime. I am now currently employed as an Administrative & Marketing Assistant for Evans Bank in Hamburg, New York and am a Head Coach for a Niagara Frontier Volleyball Club. Most of my success as a 23 year old woman is due to my family, friends, and the relationships I’ve made at Fredonia.
Being a part of Fredonia State Volleyball was like being a part of a family. Everyone is looking out for you and your well-being as well as pushing each other for success. Being a student-athlete gives you vital tools for the working world like time-management, team interaction, and work ethic, all of which I experience at my full-time job. I have also used Coach Braun and former Captains as job and internship references.
Not only is being a student-athlete hard work, but it’s also fun work. Running the infamous “Ladder” and playing six days a week while studying for tests and writing papers is all worth the work when you walk out with a Conference Title and graduating on the Dean’s List. It’s easy when your teammates are like sisters and your coaches are like bumpers in a bowling alley, keeping you on course.
I now recommend Fredonia State College to my players at Niagara Frontier Volleyball Club, as well as younger family members and friends. I am constantly multi-tasking at work and as a coach, and what I’ve learned as a student-athlete at Fredonia is priceless.
